Walkathons remain popular because they are a low-cost, low-intensity event ideal for mobilizing broad-based community involvement. A walkathon is one of the easiest event formats to pull off, because it simply involves people willing to walk. From grandparents to kids, everyone can participate. All participants raise individual sponsorships prior to the event, either on a per-mile basis or a single pledged amount. Everyone finishes together at the end for an awards celebration and party.

You can also include corporate sponsorships in a walkathon event, either simply with a main underwriting sponsor for the entire event or multiple sponsors to sponsor each mile marker on the route.
